Stumbled then died...

Went for an early morning cruise and ended up flat bedding car back to shop. Car was kinda stumbling like it was missing or out of gas for a few seconds and then just went dead. It has been running fine untill today. Actually it started briefly, 10 second or so, about 10 minutes after it died. Car turns over but no start. Car is an 85 Carrera, with a 1/4 tank of gas. ;-) Any Ideas?
Thanks,
Joe

Did you try switching out the relay in the DME box under the driver's seat, which also is the relay for the fuel pump?

Kurt, not yet but I will check. Thanks! This is the kind of suggestions I am looking for. I am o.k. at finding and fixing stuff that is suggested but not to good at trouble shooting.

Oh and don't forget the obvious. Are you sure your fuel gauge is accurate?

The rule of thumb is that a DME relay will go bad eventually, and it's usually a good idea to have a spare handy. They're not expensive (our host sells them). Sounds like the relay is a likely suspect.

Cool Stumbled.....

Also, check the fuel pump FUSE in the front fuse panel. If it develops too much corrosion on the contacts, heat will be generated and possibly cause poor or no connection between the fuse and the contacts that hold the fuse in place.

Good Luck!
