3.6 for the conversion just arrived!

I just got my 3.6 for my SC conversion and I am stoked! It's a 95 993 euro motor. Here are a couple of pics:) http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1059521245.jpg

And the last one. On this photo, on the lower left, you can see the rear cam exposed - is that where the power steering block off goes?

pbs911 07-29-2003 04:34 PM

Yes, that's where the block off plate goes. You will also need to fab some sheet metal for the engien tin in that location to make up for the loss of the pump. Now for the fun part!

code7rpd 07-29-2003 04:35 PM

I cant wait!

Bill Verburg 07-29-2003 04:47 PM

Looks great!!, Nice and clean!

BennyBroadcast 07-29-2003 06:27 PM

Sweet lookin donk mate!!!

errrr, "donk" is aussie slang for engine in case I left anyone wondering :-)

Embs 07-29-2003 06:51 PM

Looks Awesome!! Unless you already have your conversion pieces, bite the bullet and get your parts from Patrick Motorsports. If you get parts from Instant-G, do NOT use the Timmins throttle cable. <br>
I would also suggest using the stock 993 heat exchangers. Thom Fitzpatrick's CF cup tube is an excellent investment.
Tre Motorsports has an excellent center mounted Setrab cooler kit. If this is an OBDI engine you MUST use at least one O2 sensor to maintain any idle at all and to keep from running rich, if it's an OBDII you will have to have at least two O2 sensors.

Enjoy!!

code7. Dude, Where do you live? I am in Monterey county. Would love to come check this out (if you don't mind). Very cool. I would kill to put a 3.6 in my SC.

JonT 07-29-2003 07:49 PM

Another 3.6SC -- join the club!

Jack Olsen 07-29-2003 07:57 PM

Looks beautiful! Where'd you find it?

Trust Me 07-29-2003 08:12 PM

It's not the one from ebay is it? Florida?

code7rpd 07-29-2003 11:07 PM

I got the motor from one of the board members - rednine. He gets them from Germany. Thanks for the advice on the kits embs, I plan to use the Patrick motorsports throttle cable and the rest will come from Instant G. I have to tell you guys - I never would have considered a 3.6 if it weren't for the tons of info you guys put out on this forum; the forum inspired the confidence to attempt this project and stand by, I am sure I will have tons of questions! 'Trust me' - I live Lafayette,Ca - in the east bay and you are welcome to check it out anytime. I am having it towed to a body shop on Thursday to get painted. I am going from metallic blue to 993 midnight blue. Once I get it back I need to get the cooling done - I will be using a widemouth cooler with a fan and a Setrab front mounted unit. I'll post pics once I get it back from the shop with new paint and the 993 dash I am putting in.

code7rpd 07-29-2003 11:09 PM

Oh by the way, where can I get in touch with Tom Fitzpatrick for the CF cup tube?

Alan.UK 07-29-2003 11:11 PM

You can reach him at: http://vintagebus.com

He has a ton of well photographed DIY stuff that has bailed me out on multiple occasions.

rattlsnak 07-30-2003 06:41 AM

If you don't mind, @ how much did you give for it? What contact info do you have for him? I emailed him (rednine) twice and he hasnt answered me in 2 weeks.

Moses 07-30-2003 08:51 AM

Wow! Congratulations. You got this together in a hurry.

What are you planning for exhaust? I have something new, cheap and sneaky planned for mine.

A series of disasters that a bad fiction writer couldn't come up with.

The idle problem I have talked about before is not resolved, but we now have full diagnostics from the DME. My mechanic rigged up the diagnostic port. We have replaced a bad throttle body and the airflow sensor. The DME has been replaced twice. He now thinks the problem resides in the Cyntex chip that was previously functioning perfectly. (Do they go bad?) As an aside, Cyntex has the WORST customer service ever. I tried to track them down to find out what the parameters were that they programmed into my chip and possibly buy a new one. They never answer the phone and have not answered several messages left on the recorder.

Anyway, not much light at the end of my long, dark tunnel.

Bill Verburg 07-30-2003 10:27 AM

Sorry to hear that! :( mine is working fine, I would like to hook up a diagnostic port, any chance of providing some more info on that? I know that Steve Weiner can also provide the euro OBD1 993 chips

code7rpd 07-30-2003 11:03 AM

I'll tell you what Mark, even though you have some minor problems, the car is phenominal! I have a a Euro DME with an Euro RS program on the way. I don't know if it will work on yuor car - it should except for the Vram - if it will work, you can try it out when I get it to see if it solves your problem. At least that way you can confirm whether it is in fact the chip. I was planning on doing my exhaust the same way you did yours but I think I will wait to see the new improved version you are working on - I will probably do the same! Can we get a deal on two sets?

Moses 07-30-2003 11:20 AM

Bill,
I will get all the details on the diagnostic port hookup for you next week and post them.

Manny,
Let me get mine hooked up and you can see if you like it. I did a preliminary hookup with the Dynomax Superturbo muffler. Wow! Great low rumbly sound. Not as loud as my present system. I'll let you know when I'm hooked up.

Sorry, I'm supposed to phrase it in the form of a question:

Would you like to see my tube? Go to http://vintagebus.com/rstube

And here's a pic of my tube on Ingo's engine:
