Question 930 Maintenance costs?

Hello guys. I may have an opportunity to trade my car for a "mildly modified" 1986 930. I was wondering if any of the Turbo owners would be kind enough to give me ballpark annual maintenace costs. I will be driving about 3-5K miles a year on it. Strictly weekend toy. Any ideas?

I go some months spending $300-500, and some months $0. Mine has been all preventative maintenance replacing hoses, fittings, gaskets, etc... I do all the work myself and drive about 5000 miles/year (weekend & road trip vehicle).

I would expect to spend (on average) $200/month to keep it running well. That factors in replacing things that are on the brink. Performance upgrades can cost you $$$ if you catch the bug.

Oh, the first year will be the most expensive as you repair/replace all the things the PO didn't.

Just make sure to get a PPI before or those light modifications might screw you.

Modifications

The mods on the car are as follows: full RSR coil over suspension, adjustable bars front and rear, front strut brace, K27 turbo, Andial intercooler, 1 bar spring, B&B headers and single out 4", Quaife LSD, aluminum flywheel, Sachs sport clutch, Gruppe B cams, Powerflow intake w/ K&N, Pagid orange pads, SS brake lines, BBS 18" race wheels (as used in current Cup cars), short shift kit, Momo suede steering wheel, Alpine CD/speakers/amps, and ?? roll cage (with removable harness and seat bars).

The rest, well, its stock

Damn, sounds nice.

If it passes the PPI and buy it you should put it on the dyno to see what it is putting to the ground and to verify that your A/F mix is OK.

Wow, that sounds like a monster car. Be sure to post pics if everything works out!

(Oh yeah... sorry, I dont know squat about 930 maint costs, all I know is that my 911 is waaaaaaay cheaper to maintain than my 951 was)

With a car that stock, I don't see where you'd have any problems

I bought my 930 with "mild mods" as you put it, my thinking was that I'd probably do the mods anyway and instead of spending tens of thousands to do the mods, I'd just be spending thousands to maintain it. Sounded like a good excuse at the time, and I'm happy with it. I've found that even though every thing on the car is beefier from the factory, parts still wear faster than a non-turbo car. I hear of engine rebuilds needed at 60K miles. Then there's clutches! If you do the work yourself it shouldn't be too bad.

Hell, my car has mods and was still running strong at 130K miles.

Unfortunately oil leaks started getting nasty and the starter ring gear self destructed.

It was extremely fun getting something to break.

In the time that I owned it the tires, brakes and oil ended up being the largest expenses.

I had to change the clutch at about 90K miles which set me back about $850.

Lets just say that I saved a lot of money by being able to do the tune ups, valve adjustments and oil changes myself.

If you can turn a wrench and do the regular maintenance items yourself you will save plenty. Learn how to do these things which are not that difficult with good advice from this board and the right tools.
It looks like your car has most of the popular turbo modifications so the PO ate that cost. I'm sure you will want to tweak things here and there and do the 'while I'm in there' items, these are the things that can get out of control easily. These cars are more expensive to run than a NA car but boost is addictive and you always have a stupid grin on your face when driving.
