Partial/Main enrichment on 1969 MFI, screwdriver?
I've got the tools...now I want to start fiddling with the partial/main enrichment on a 69 2.0 MFI pump. I removed the 5mm allen screw from the rear of the pump (facing towards the rear of the car). However....the screwdriver that came in the pelican tools does not fit in this little itty bitty hole to adjust......am I missing something? is there some thing else I need to do to get to that main adjustment?

what do you mean "doesn't fit?" the screw driver I use on the MFI is one I had laying in the tool box. the shaft and tip are only 1/8" wide. Any wider and it will not fit. Shaft of the screwdriver needs to be at least 2" long.

I found that the blade on the MFI adjusting screwdriver was about 1mm too wide... some careful grinding did the trick.

Grind it down, I had to do the same.

Ok! I was wondering what was going on...and since I couldn't see anything in there with a light, I was wondering if I was completely barking up the wrong tree.
The car is absolutely spectacular (for a 2.0 liter engine) from 3k to 7100....it's those lower revs that are going to drive me crazy. Per |

I took my 11 year old nephew (who has just discovered cars) for a ride and ran the car up to 7000 RPM in a couple of gears on a local entrance ramp. After he got done saying "Aw cool!" a few times, the next thing that he said was "Can you make it make that sound again, it was SOOO COOOOOL!" "That sound" was the induction wail from the MFI. Don't you gotta love MFI! :D |
Grind the screwdriver end down, make sure you keep good track of the current adjustment, make sure you do not push in too hard while making adjusments, and use a gas tester to dial in the adjustment.
