Clutch Aux Return Spring and HE
Recently replaced my clutch and it is very well adjusted - Sachs Power Clutch Kit et.al.
Now the aux return spring contacts the driver side heat exchanger - barely - on release you hear a metallic "clink". Crawled in there and sure enough there is a cutout on the side of the HE to make room for the spring. Not sure I can cut out much more and I don't want to remove the HE to do it. I faced the exact same issue. Ronin was kind enough to supply the remedy in the form of a photograph:
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1059613970.jpg Apparently done with a soft blow hammer that folds the flange flat against the shroud of the heat exchanger. I guess you could wedge a screwdriver in there and accomplish the same thing but it might not be pretty. Of course, someone else sent me a photo where someone had seriously dented the flange to make room for the omega spring, so its all a matter of taste I guess. Good luck. Tom |
The lip on my HE was pretty well previously cut off. Did manage to get a hack saw blade in the gap and cleaned out a bit more metal. If it still makes noise I'll have to try the hammer and screw driver technique hopefully without making holes!

I wouldn't take any chances - clean up the interference. The "new" springs feature sheathes that are thinner than the older ones. The helper springs break regularly and you don't need the additional scraping to help them along!

Use a dremel tool with metal bit to grind down the HE. Worked for me real quick
