Dead Battery - Electric Locks

I fianally got the electric locks working on my 85 Carrera Cab. The connections were loose on the bottom of the lock control module. I determined I had to fix them as the car would not lock without them. Only had the car a few weeks and had never tried to lock the doors but knew the electrics locks didn't work. While patting myself on the back I had a horrible thought.. What if you lock the car and the battery goes dead. Can't unlock the car to get to the hood latch. Any ideas or experiences with this. Someone should invent a little battery backup that plugs in the lock module

With factory central locking you can unlock the door with the key, there is a direct mechanical connection from the key lock to the door latch.
You can lock the car by pressing the passenger side lock button down and shutting the door (you have to lock the driver's door by shutting the door and then pressing down the lock button).
