Introducing new member... me. (long)
 

Hello Pelican members.
I live in New Zealand, (and buy from pelican)
After years of silently browsing this forum from work, I now have a home computer and can participate. We were banned from participating in chat rooms on work computers.
I have 3 porsches, a 1970 911T with a ROW 2.7 motor, a 1980 SC Targa and a 1986 944 turbo. Both my 911's are Ex USA.
Heres a bit of info about them and a few of my thoughts.
911T, I have just put a very healthy 2.7 in it a few weeks ago. Yes, all the usual mods have been done, time certs, carrera tensioners etc etc. I have an early exhaust system on it, and dare I say it, Zeniths. Yes I have heard all about these Carbs, but mine have been great over the years. I milled out the venturis on a freinds lathe to 31mm. Then followed the general jetting advice for webbers, eg 130 mains, .6mm idles etc and bolted them on and they have gone great, it pulls hard to the red line in 4th, and cruised up to 130mph in 5th before I lost my nerve. Despite their reputation I like Zeniths and will stoutly defend them in the future.
Despite the reputation of the 2.7's I have had nothing but good experiences with them in the past, perhaps luck.
My SC is stock, but feels like it will go forever. A much more refined car than my T, however the engine really does feel choked up. Make no mistake, it is not down on power, but the 3.0 motor just feels like it wants to give more, but cant. I have fixed most of the things that were wrong when I bought it (Porsche electrics are terrible). I also had early K Jet issues so I know my way around that system now (another story). This car is great fun.
I also Have a 944 Turbo. I swapped it recently for a Lotus Elan. My brother owned it for 4 years and I know it well. It has been well serviced. It is the only car my Sweet heart will drive. She says that 911's smell (inside)... oh dear never mind. This car has been chipped and easily does 160mph... funny thing is that it is only fun on boost. The rest of the time it just feels like a refined car. Make no mistake, I like this car too, but 911's are fun and exciting even at 60mph on a straight road. You guys will understand, something intangible that makes them more fun than anything else.
Anyhow, last thing I would like to say is thanks to all the members who contribute their hard, and expensively earned knowledge to this forum (not wanting to name names, but Mr Walker and 'Early S man' are standout). The info provided has enabled me to fix many things that would have been left to a mechanic. I love working on cars and know a bit. I will do my best to chime in where possible to help you out too.

Makes me wonder how many lurkers there are out there who have never met us, but probably know more about us from this board than our own families.

Looks like I will now have to buy a digital camera, sorry now pic's for now.... but that money could be spent on one of my cars..... Hmm tough decision.
Cam, I live in Manaia, Taranaki. quite a few NZers on pelican I see.
For The Overseas pelicans, I live in a small town in the middle of no where. We live by a big dormant volcano, which has roads surrounding it that resemble a spiders web, when looking at a map of the area. I am 300 metres from a 62mph speed zone (legal open road speed limit and can drive for several hours and go futher that 30 miles from home and never touch the same ief road twice. Long Straights, Twisties... Porsche open road heaven.

Hmmmm, Taranaki eh (JAFA here). It must be great having decent roads on your doorstep...

The 3 Sisters are just down the road from where I took that picture. The coastline reminded me of the Big Sur coastline in CA (memory blurry - I was 10 years old when I saw it).

Hey, Stu, welcome to the board (I guess I'm entitled to say it, even though I'm a very very modest contributor, as far as technical matters go!). I've much enjoyed reading your intro and ...sounds very good! Upon reading the board, I come accross posts..names I like more than others (which is of course normal..), I'm pleased to say there's a few Kiwi's there that I've always enjoyed reading ... Matt Smith is one... Yes, this board is quite a community, one example of the phenomenon in support of the idea that internet sometimes does provide the stuffing for the "global village" turkey.
