Carbon Fiber Watershields - Got 'em
All I can say is that CarbonJoe (aka Joe Vargus) ROCKS when it comes to carbon fiber work. Of course he DOES contract out to major aerospace companies for his composite material work.
These watershields were finally made for me (after annoying Joe with dozens of e-mails to make them). They are made using the vacuum bag technique which draws the resin through the CF for a better finish with no bubbles. Very exquisite work. They run $125 for the pair for triple Webers and come pre-drilled for the 4 wingnut holes at the top of the air filter. He also makes them for two barrel carbs! Joe can be reached at carbonjoe@attbi.com http://www.carbonjoe.net/index.html

Very nice work!
![]() I had a look on your website. Your 914-6 GT Conversion project is looking good! Did Joe make the carbon fiber engine shroud too?

I wish Joe made the engine shroud... it's not as good quality as his stuff.

Karl, could you describe install, ie: is it just remove big air cleaner fixture and screw these on? or is it more involved? I suspect that my stock air cleaner housing may have a leak and have considered replacing with the K+N watershields but these seem "cooler". thanks

Joe...
Just like you said... unscrew, remove, replace, secure with wingnuts.

Extra neat trick - drill little holes in one wing of each wing nut then join each pair together with carb return springs. Stops them coming loose and is easier to remove/replave than lock wire.

I had talked to Wolfert too. I really wanted the machined covers that had PORSCHE on them, but he won't make them for fear of getting sued. He will do the crest, but you have to attach it.
He does REALLY nice work... http://www.wolfert.com/

Joe will make other parts also -- if there is some demand. I've mentioned to him the following CF parts:
- front horn grills - rear decklid vents (surprisingly heavy in plastic) - interior door handle latch If you'd like to see him make these, then Email him -- DON'T just post here -- tho you can do that as well as sending him an Email. the more he makes the cheaper they will be. I would vote for the deck lid grill as most important. |
