carpet types
How much weight does the RS type "carpet" (felt) save over the standard types?
Also, what is the highest quality standard type carpet? Is it the German silver knit? Thanks. |
Save weight, you should replace the stock seat with racing seats. I don't think carpet will save you too much weight.

anybody know the answers??

Randy, the German velour is the best carpet for the early cars. I don't know how much the various carpet types weigh, but I think the RS felt is about 1/2 the weight of the velour. But the velour sure looks nice in our 73E.

Hey Randy, I just found the box my German velour carpet was shipped in (from Pelican Parts :) ) and it had a weight of 25 lbs marked on it. So, figure you're going to save no more than 12 lbs.

Thanks much -- 12 is something....

I've heard the RS set weighs 6 lbs. Second hand info though.

Chuck is correct - I've just weighed the RS LWT carpet set that I haven't got round to fitting to my car yet - it weighs 6 lbs.
This is the full set (17 pieces) that does away with the rear seats & deck & replaces the inner rear wheelarch vinyl panels, etc. Incidentally I got the carpet from Robert Breshears at Appbiz - excellent quality/service/price. Andy '69 911E--------->R |
I helped install an RS lwt carpet set this spring, we didn't weigh it but there was nothing to it. The whole car came in at just a tad over 2116# dry w/ lead weights added.

My RS carpet kits weigh in at approx 8.5 lbs for perlon felt style and about 10 lbs for the plush needlepunch material. (We double up the material with Perlon on the floor inserts and the rear deck piece). These weights are based on the set for 65 to 73 cars, sets for newer cars are just slightly heavier.
Hope this helps Bob Applied Business Concepts bob@appbiz.com |
