A very sad day for me :(
My 73S is sold, goodbye to a magnificent beast. Someday maybe I'll be lucky enough to own another. Until then the hunt goes on for a newer, safer (wife likes airbags), trackable, more-daily-driver-ish car. Thanks to all those on Pelican who helped me out with the occasional quirks of my 73.

NYSCAR,
Sorry to see you "lose" the 73. Will the newer, safer (wife likes airbags), trackable, more-daily-driver-ish car be of the 911 persuasion?

It's a very very good possibility

well, unless the wife qualifies as an airbag (I didn't say that), looks like a job for a 964.

Sorry to hear it. I feel your pain. I hope you got a good price for it.
My daily driver is a Mercedes wagon. It's not a Porsche but for a safe daily driver it's hard to beat. It's got gobs of room. Airbags and handles better than an SUV. You can get them cheap too. I saw an excellent 95' E320 wagon go for $9500 the other day.

Unless you absolutely need a sedan, stick with the Porsche. Good luck with whatever you decide.

I drove a buddy's s-4 recently and have to say it is a nice piece of engineering

993 is where you want to be, IMHO. Great solid car and still very Porsche...

What about an early 996?

996 what!?!? I would insult the memory of my S, and I would have to exile myself from Pelican for good
![]() Kidding aside, I have thought seriously about the 996 as well, but I keep swaying back and forth on whether I like the looks or not. There's currently no big hurry, I'm going to take a little while to gather funds for the next one - my holy grail if I can somehow manage to afford one is a 993 turbo ![]() Brad

M5! Oooo! I'm obviously a HUGE P-car fan, but I had the chance to be in the passenger seat of Anders Hanier's (P-club driver in Cali) M5 during a few spirited "parade laps" at willow springs. Man, that car was so smooth and so fast. Sounded like a NASCAR! He has some intake and exhaust work done. Tough call! But, I would love to be able to make that decision (he says out of envy)!
![]() Either way, stay on the board. We needs ya man!

If I were in your shoes I would go with an S4. They are amazing cars. I'm a big fan of Audi's products with the caveat that their service depts. can be "challenging". I personally have a TT as a daily driver and have been happy with the car since day 1. Granted, it's not as satisfying as my 911, but it's not slouch on the freeway or through the twisties. Also, you can't beat quattro in the rain.

My wife just bought a A4 3.0. Don't think it compares to a S4 but it's a "nice" grocery getter. Still big and bulky compared to a 911.
Sounds like the budget allows for a really nice 993 C4S. That'd be my pick.

Thats ironic. I just sold my 993 so I can build a '72 track car.

Hah that's quite amusing rattlsnak, did you like your 993? Let me clarify a bit, my wife and I aren't really looking for a grocery-getter per say. We're living in manhattan, so a daily driver/grocery getter isn't really required...my qualifications:
1. Great handler & fast 2. Can drive all year (the 73 was parked during the salt season) 3. Good looking car 4. Functional A/C 5. Trackable (i.e. nice, clean, reliable, passes tech with flying colors) Any passenger capabilities or grocery capabilites are not necessarily requirements, but of course they are appreciated. I like the S4's, but they're a bit on the heavy side. M5's are heavy too, but they manage to pretend to be lighter somehow. I used to track/autoX an E36 M3 and I loved that car, so that's where my affinity for another BMW comes from. The turbo might be a stretch, but is a possibility. The prices are becoming very attractive (for a car in that league, low 60's is not bad at all), I think it is one of the most gorgeous cars I've seen, and I've always wanted to own a real 'supercar' before I have kids ![]()
