Damaged B&B Exhaust question

My co-driver for the One Lap this year decided that the gravel trap at Road America was part of the line.

The result was that the once round interference fit (pipe in pipe) where the two manifold halves come together is now slightly "D" shaped and leaking.

My original thought was to put a muffler clamp on it and call it good.

My conscience says the interference fit is there for a reason, to allow expansion & contraction, and that I should fix it right by taking the whole thing apart and using a tail pipe expander to reshape the interface.

Any of you exhaust guys out there have a thought on this ?

Thanks in advance,
Dave

You can use an expander on it....or a ball (steel) welded to a bar that you drive into the opening.

later 930 B+Bs had an extra inner sleeve, so one side slides into a double sleeve on the other. that would be hard to fix.

Thanks John. Can I clamp it or will that cause me even more problems in the future ?

if you clamp it enough to distort the joint, you'll have a bittch of a time ever getting it apart again. maybe B+B can fix it, but it's probably not worth the effort for them. they would rather sell you a new one.

Any muffler shop should be able to fix it, they all have expander type machines. My GHLs got run over after the end pipe fell off the car (broken weld) and were almost flattened. He slipped it over the end and in 5 seconds it was perfectly round again.
