Time to drive the car. My most recent investment from Pelican was for the engine rebuild book. I'm sure it will lead to a significant amount of discretionary income spending.

It's been raining, raining, raining. I've only put 900 miles on it this year (as opposed to my usual 4K at this time).

I've got a wife...

I hear you Brian. Just went shopping with the wife yesterday - had to hold her back...

If I had a place to work on the car (with a lift), and some knowledgeable folk to help (tell me what bolt to turn while they sip a beer), I would buy more parts and do more DIY.
Along with "DriveWerks", how about a "ShopWerks"? Or set up deals with certain shops for delivering parts and involving the customer as middle man? |
Wayne, I think that it is just summertime. The weather up here (NW) has been so darn good that everyone is out and about. Don't want to spend much time fixing things, want to get out and do some cruisin. It will pick up. I know I have some things to order in short time. DT

Todd, you give me beer, I'll stand there all weekend and point at your car. What's so hard about that???

Fractured spine
Well, Wayne -- I bought a whole bunch of stuff for my now-deceased 930, and wrecked it the night before I was going to install all of it.
The good news is, I'm buying an '83 930 (assuming the PPI works out), so I should be "needing" a bunch more stuff in the near future. Put it this way, Pelican was the first site I added to "Favorites" on the new computer last Friday. JP |

Nostatic, I'm in the same boat. We should start up something like a roundrobin. Every other week go to a different guy's house and work on his car. Maybe an engine drop this week, two weeks from now top to bottom detailing, R&R a front end, etc.
For Wayne's benefit, if I knew I could buy $500 worth of front end parts and have them put in (or at least someone sipping a beer while I do it RIGHT) I'd spend a lot more than I do now. |

How about we try compromising; I point at the right bolt 50% of the time, and you don’t have to buy Samuel Smith Nut Brown Ale for me? In order to try and keep this a little on topic, I just updated my Project List for all the things I need for the 3.6 conversion. OMG! I’m not even close to being done adding things. Wayne, I vow to do my part this month to pull PP out of the slump, which seems to be much more of a bump than a slump. |

For instance, in my needing a new flywheel, I could not immediately locate the part in the Pelican catalog (69 flywheel), and would have been a great service just to know where the part (if in) the catalog is, the cost, the shipping charge, and important to me, on exactly what date the part would arrive, right in the thread. I don't care if it comes across as an advertisement, in fact I see this as being more caring to my needs. e.g.: Maybe if not too much additional work, a board member could have an option checked off for "parts in the thread". (I would not mind seeing a Pelican parts rep, right in my thread, stating "we have such and such part, in stock, it's catalog no. XXXX, and delivers in XXX time/date, etc.,) The other issue with me is time. I like my parts right when I want them. My schedule is such, that I make deliberate hours to work on my car, and other hours are strictly off limits devoted to other matters Thanks for the board Wayne. |
Wayne,
Many of us have spent many thousands of $. Many of us also feel truly fortunate to have such a support/tech. group available via Pelican Parts. However, many of us also are very sensitive to implications that something is up with US because we're not meeting your sales projections. There's a lot of competion out there, especially for such discretional spending. The problem is not with US (if there is a problem). As far as I can tell, there is no reason Porsche parts shoud be as expensive as they are, either original or aftermarket; "exclusivity" has some value...to a point. The reality is that most people view Porsche as an overrated, overpriced status symbol. With all due respect Wayne, businesses large and small are clamoring for every dollar they can get. I haven't heard you are anyone else ask what's up with Porsche head studs, or tensioner failures or cooling problems or body sag or Targa top problems, etc... Don't misunderstand, I am dedicated to Porsche (I own two) and will continue to support Pelican in any way that I can. But when asked what's up with me, I cringe... |
I was unemployed from Jan 02 til Jul 02 and then again from Apr 03 til now. So I'm holding off on any big purchases for my baby. But I still look at catalogs and plan for when I can return to DE and autoxing when I'm employed once again.
Anyone need a Release Engineer in the San Jose area? |
Wayne,
I bought my '74 911 Targa on June 21, 2002 and then bought quite a bit of hardware from you and others (stuff you didn't carry). Now that the car is on the road and running well, I'm driving it and planning upgrades for the winter "hibernation". This is prime driving season in Michigan, so I don't plan on doing much to the car until November. I really appreciate your company, this website and all of the wonderful people I've "met" here. Thank you for your care, concern and professionalism. Hang in there and stay honest!!!!! |
Yesterday, I bought a new 23mm master cylinder and a spiffy Rennline dead pedal.
|
i just got a wife,( like last week) and, well, i cant spend the time i would like with the "other woman"
|
No woman or kids, just the car. And it seems that i'm the only idiot working on his car in this great weather. Plus since i sold the 944, i've been driving a chevy express van. :( Right now i'm trying to save up for the head work and cylinder lapping that's going to put me in debt.

I prefer buying from Pelican due to the level of service they provide. Someone also said that Pelican will match prices. This I had not previously known this if, in fact, it is true. Would prefer to use Pelican in the future, but money talks... Tom |
