Sound of dragging chain?
Anyone got an audio file of a busted chain tensioner?
I think I'm hearing a chain dragging on the left side of the engine (buddies 2.7), still has original tensioners. Rev the motor a little, when its coming down, sound like a chain dragging over a board. Coughs alot and tries to back fire. Just wanting to verify before I pull the motor. Thanks

John,
Sounds like it has already jumped a tooth ... a VERY DANGEROUS situation for a 911 engine!!! I would strongly recommend not running the engine again ... until the tensioners have been checked! The 'chain dragging out of a trashcan' sound is noticeable from ffirst starting up, and will run chills up your spine! You don't have to 'pull the engine' to check OR change the chain tensioners! Just remove the muffler and two rear pieces of engine tin to get at the chain housings.

You need to remove the covers and to remove the covers you need to remove the muffler and some sheet metal.
