'79 turbo ignition trouble
I posted this a couple weeks back. (see below) One suggestion was to bypass the delayed ignition cutoff relay. I have not had a chance to do this yet but I did perform the tests in Bently and Haynes.
The results: The coil was to have .4 to .6 ohms between terminals 1 and 15. It did. Between 1 and 15 was to be 650 to 750 ohms. When I checked this cold it was 945. After running the car a while I checked it again and got 743 ohms. When cranking I did see a pulsing voltage between the two specified plugs on the CDI terminal. The stock CDI has been replaced with a Perma Tune unit. I do not hear any whining coming from this box when the ignition is on. Does the PermaTune unit whine the same as the stock box? Thanks for any suggestions, DLG '79 Turbo Not Starting Ignition Question My newly acquirred 930 is not starting. I posted a couple weeks ago about this same topic. When this happens the car will try to run...barley, then die. Today when the same thing happened I pulled the coil wire to test spark. With the key on the coil wire was pulsing a spark. At what seemed to be the same pulse intervals, the fuel pump was making a "chunk-chunk" instead of a steady wine. Also, the relay at the left year was clicking at the same intervals. While cranking there was no spark from the coil wire. It has done this a few times and I can go back in few minutes and it will start without ant trouble. Today I have not been so fortunate. I forgot to mention that it happens when the engine is both cold and hot. Any more ideas? Thanks, DLG |
