I need help removing plunger in fuel distributor
Okay, I have the fuel distributor removed from the car and I need to get to the plunger to clean it. I don’t know what to remove from the unit to get to the plunger. I have read post that said DO NOT DISMANTLE this unit to far, so I only want to remove what is needed to do the job. Also what else do I need to replace while it’s out? Is there any O-rings or such? I know I have to replace the gasket that mates it to the air box.
I have looked in Waynes book "101" but nothing about this task. The plunger is sticking and causes the fuel to flow freely. Thanks Rick ![]()

I think you've gone as far as you can go, and going any farther could ruin the unit. Bosch is supposed to do the service on stuff like your problem. I suspect it's not hard to dismantle--it's just a machine, after all--but like the alarm clock that the nine-year-old disassembles, getting it back together again in proper calibariton ain't gonna happen.
At least that's what I've heard... Stephan

The plunger should fall out of the distributor after you remove the distributor from the air flow meter (three screws). Try a couple of light raps or a little compressed air in the control pressure (middle) fuel port, if the plunger doesn't drop out. But, be careful! Don't push the air gun right up to the port or put anything more than the lightest pressure on it. The plunger can fly out, and hurt you, or just get dinged up, which renders the entire assembly useless.
Try a little Gumout on the plunger, first. If it's rusty then you may have some fairly extensive problems, but you can try a light polish with some crocus cloth which has already been "broken in," for instance by stroking it over the corner of a vice a few times. Don't let any particles get into the distributor, or they'll be plugging your injectors next. If you're getting into this stuff seriously, then I would recommend the Probst book on Bosch fuel injection, and the factory workshop manual. Last edited by Tom F2; 08-02-2003 at 11:53 AM.. |

Thanks Tom,
But I have tried air and more than lite taps on the unit and the plunger wont move. I want to remove it because it is stuck in the up positon and causes the fuel to free flow whenyou turn the key on ,thus flooding the cylinders! Thanks Rick
