Route 66 Porsche Only Show - Sponsored by 9 Magazine!
This August 16th along historical Route 66 in Gallup, New Mexico the 1st Annual Route 66 Porsche Only Show will take place.
The day starts with a Wash N' Shine from 10am to 1pm to raise money for the Gallup Battered Families home. Then for those who wish to see the beauty of the Red Rocks/Old Route 66 and colorful Native American back roads of the Cibola National Forest there will be a road tour from 1:30 pm to 4:30. The day is capped off with an award banquet at 7pm for those who are staying over. At the banquet the awards for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place will be awarded, along with door prizes from several leading Porsche businesses including Pelican Parts and local Indian Trading Posts! Everyone will leave with something very nice. A great weekend away, you can shop for Native American arts, visit several National Monuments in the area, and enjoy the colorful Native American culture of Gallup, New Mexico. I drove along that road when i picked up my sc, extremely beautiful scenery and hella nice drive.

Whoah... I can only drool at the proposed program. Unfortunately it is extremely unlikely that I would drive my Carrera over the big pond and then route 66 all the way to Gallup New Mexico...makes my eyes watery...red rocks...native arts. I used to live in El Paso when I was a kid (we're talking 1963-64). A different world then (and now, unfortunately in many respects).

Is this show planned to be held in New Mexico next year (or the following year), too? I would love to combine going to the show with a visit to relatives out that way. Just can't do it this year.

We hope this turns into a yearly event, the City of Gallup is behind us and I have a good friend who is a State Senator for the area who thinks the New Mexico State Tourism Board and Route 66 Preservation Committee would help us make this a big event.
