Any comprehensive seal/gasket thread?
 

Other than Wayne's book, which I have, regarding thermostat O-ring, oil cooler rings, c.c. breather gasket, valve cover gasket, flywheel seal, etc..

1. I am wondering which other seals (if any), other than the above, are practical to get at with an engine removed?

2, Which gaskets, not mentioned above, are easy to replace, with the engine out?

3. What is the purpose of the circular flex "steel" ring that comes with the flywheel seal?

4. And finally, is there a "trick" in installing all these, so they will last best, functioning properly?

Don't know how 'deep' you are getting into your engine.......did a few of these over the weekend.

Intermediate shaft cover gasket.

If replacing cam chain ramps, the Al. washers behind the bolts should be replaced.

If updating/replacing the oil pressure relief springs/pistons, new Al. washers behind bolts.

Crankshaft seal behind pully.

Al. washer on oil pressure switch should be renewed with new switch.

New cam lines, banjo fittings/washers for good measure.

RSR rocker shaft seals.

Tricks: Clean surfaces of all gasket material using a suitable scraper (don't gouge the mating surfaces), clean with degreaser and install the gaskets dry. For the seals (crankshaft, flywheel), lube with molly grease and install.

The flywheel seal "steel" flex ring? Is that to be seated somehow? Or will it properly go in place when the seal is flush with the surface?

I think it just holds the seal against the crankshaft so oil won't leak out. The rubber will deform over time, I think that the steel is a bit stiffer "bungie cord."
