Hi guys,
I have recently eported my 71 911T back to Europe and have a problem with the local vehicle testing (MOT). The car is fitted with 16" Fuchs (6's and 7's) and 205 tires. On the front there is some rubbing on the inside of the fender. This has failed the vehicle test!. Can the play or travel be adjusted on the steering to stop this? Many thanks for any help rgds Ben

I don't think so. You could get an other set of wheels that don't rub and install them for the test

That might work if I could borrow them maybe?.
But am sure tons of other guys here have 6" wheels on older cars? Seems a narrow choice`as some of the guys squeeze 7" wheels there and fatter rubber!? Anyone?

tpt, you might be able to increase your negative camber on the front wheels by loosening the nuts at the top of each strut and moving the tops of the struts towards the centerline of the car. I don't know how much this can buy you, but perhaps it'll be enough. Otherwise, you might have to change to 195's up front. Good luck with this!

Actually the car is rubbing on the backside of the vertical section of the wheel arch not the lip!
- only rubs when you turn hard to the left on the left hand wheel arch (backside) thanks Ben

Check your tie rods. When the steering wheel is centered, is there a difference from left to right in the number of turns for the steering lock?
Maybe your tie rods aren't centered. You could change the tie rods ends by an equal amount so that you can't turn the wheel as much towards the left. You will have to recenter the steering wheel after you are done. But try the camber adjustment first.

Thanks for the advice, I will have a garage check that.
Unfortunately the car is in the UK and I am stuck in the US for the time being, so I cannot check the car myself. The car already has quite a lot of neg camber on the front, but the tie rods were changed for turbo tie rods if this means anything? ,maybe adjusted badly at the same time? Thanks again. Rgds Ben
