Painting Brake Calipers
Another question from this "rookie" Just had my calipers rebuilt, and I have ordered the red caliper paint kit with the Porsche logo caliper decal. Anybody have any experience with this, and the result. The mechanic at the shop told me they come out great if you do it right..just like big reds. Is this true?

Frankie....I've seen this discussion before. Try the search in the upper right hand corner of the screen. You'll probably get a few threads with useful info.
BTW, welcome to the board.

They will look fine if you do the prep work to clean the surface. Do a search on here and you will see where others have done their calipers.

I've done this Frankie . The time it takes depends on how fussy you are . I simply wire brushed and cleaned them with an alcohol spray supplied with the brush on laquer kit . I didn't paint the rear of the caliper . leave them somewhere hot to dry . A year later they still look fine . Ideally you would powder coat them .
When done they look like 'Little Reds' ![]() |

Be careful when you knock the pins out to change the brake pads. If you miss...the paint will chip.
Ask me how I know :-(

Nice
Bones...they look awesome! The kit I purchased has all the cleaning solvent, paint and hardener you need. But the instructions say to paint them while they are on, and my mechanic said the same thing. He said there is no need to remove them.

I imagine it would be easy to paint them on , I took mine of to rebuild the calipers . However if you go that far install stainless braided brake lines and the drilled disks . They update the car and on an old SC like mine the breaking performance is as the factory intended 25yrs ago!

I painted mine with high temp paint. I baked the fronts, and did not bake the rears. The fronts look like new after about 8 months. The rears have faded. If you paint them, be sure to bake them.

Paul, I presume you baked them in your oven? Did it stink up the oven or house? And how long did you bake them?

I just did mine about a month ago...
Zimmerman Rotors - I just used regular caliper paint and had them cut the Porsche decals to either 2 1/4 or 2 1/2 inches. A little bling bling, but I like the way they came out... BTW - no matter how hard you hit - you have to remove the hub to remove the rotor - ask me how I know! Pictures Below

Pics and details on my website. They still get dirty from brake dust, but they clean up nice
