Painting '73 mirrors, How to prep??

I need to paint these chrome puppies. Any paint alchemists have recommendations for prep. Sand? Scuff? Etching primers?

Lawd, please he'p me!

I don't recall Jens saying he wanted to rechrome them. If you want to paint the chrome (assuming no pitting or flaking) sand all the chrome with 200 grit wet sand paper then primer with self etching primer. Sand 400 grit dry (lightly) then paint.

Sand, etch, clean and then use a form of Zinc chromate primer. Then paint. I did this to my chrome door handles over 2 years ago and they still look new

I knew I could count on Damon the *PorscheMeister*. Thanks Kurt and tobluforu. Now I know the right direction to take. These need to be black for the correct factory Carrera RS 3.0 finish.

Jens,

I have painted over chrome after roughing-up with Ultrafine Scotchbrite pads, then shoot with PPG DP-40/400 two-part Epoxy-Chromate Primer ... with very good results! Any color coat will stick to the epoxy primer.

DP 40 is grey green, DP 90 is black, same stuff, however, DP is now DP LF "lead free", dropped the lead about 8-10 years ago.
