First motor drop-experiment with pics

The car looks too clean. What are you doing? Leak repair? Bigger motor?

Whilst you are in there - any chance of a favour? Basically I need a photo of where the brake pipe passes through the back bulkhead to a 't'-piece. I have forgot what this 't' secures to and what the left hand rear brake pipe is secured to.

I dropped the (original 3.2) motor/trans to replace clutch and see if G50 update for release bearings/shaft was done. My records do not indicate clutch work. It was, and clutch was barely worn so I repacked two bearings and put it back together. It has the spring type clutch disc, so I know it was replaced, not original rubber centered. Also, it is dated "1992". I had to do bearing repack since all the bearings fell out. Guess how many there are in each bearing? Pressure plate and flywheel surfaces smooth. Also: Pressure washed trans. Amazingly clean now. Upgraded to new cam oil orifices (2). Replaced plugs with Bosch Platinum +4. Replaced rotor and dist cap. Replaced two bellcrank bushings. Inner one fell out in pieces during motor removal. Cone type filter to make reaching behind motor easier. Adjusted valves and replaced gaskets, etc. Bled brake system with fresh fluid and bled clutch slave cylinder; Modified an earlier style muffler bracket to properly attach new GHL 2-in 1-out. I removed engine lid condensor, a/c compressor, all hoses from back, and aux. heater blower/ducting. I installed the fiberglass block off plate on the left/rear of motor. Replace original rear Boges with Bilstein HDs. Replace shift coupler boot since I tore old one. New O2 sensor. Can't remember what else. Things I did'nt do: Plug wires-magnecor comps only a year old. Oil press. switch on back of motor similarly new. Rob: I reinstalled motor last weekend so I can't get you the pics right away. (She's outside of my office now). However, clutch slave cylinder started leaking under the boot after all this and I may have time to do it this Sunday. I will PM you when I get the pics. Maybe do a thread on this, as someone else may have theirs out already or already have pics. Also, I'm not happy with my valve adjustment. I went a little too loose. I will correct that too. She runs strong, just need to correct the aforementioned problems. Looks great Bob. You did alot of stuff! Good to hear that your car already had the updated clutch stuff. Saves you a good chunk of change. That slave cylinder replacement shouldn't be too hard. Once you get the two nuts off the cyl., you should be able to pull it down a bit and get a wrench on the feed line fitting. Richard LeSchander has done this with the motor in the car. He should be able to give you a few tips for a more trouble-free job? I replaced mine with the motor out so............ One question. Why not remove the A/C compressor bracket on the motor? If you have to replace a cam line, tensioner line, or the oil pressure sender, that bracket makes access kinda tough. |

Thanks for posting those pics for Rob since my car is back together. I am Bob, too. Kevin: You betcha I removed the A/C bracket. It's a huge piece (actually two pieces), beautifully made and surprisingly light. You can't really see that I removed in the "after" pic I posted. I'm going to pick up a cheap digital camera so I can document better. My dad stopped by and took the pics for me. The WalMart Canon A300 looks like it'll do the job for $196. I've been using my SLR film camera but too much lag time. I've got some interesting G50 pics I need to scan and post. If the G50 were 10lbs heavier, I could'nt lift and carry around! Quiz: Come on, how many bearings in each fork shaft bearing? Bob |

I'm getting ready to remove my motor. My biggest concern is getting the car up high enough. That lift looks sweet. What kind and how much will it set me back? |
You must have the OEM g50 upgrade, as the weltmeister has bronze bushings instead of the roller bearings. Whats to keep the bearings from doing the same thing the originals did and fill up with dust and all that grease? I don.t know, just asking? JIM
