Disconnecting Oil Line to Oil Cooler

Gang:

I am trying to disconnect the lines that connect my hard lines to my front oil cooler.

I've soaked them with liquid wrench, heated them with a propane torch, and had friend (who is much stronger than I) try to loosen them.

I can't get them loose.

What/How Now?

I really want to get this disconnected so I can run lines to my new front oil cooler.

Brian

If brute force does not work, then more brute force may be needed. I have heard of folks having to cut the nut before the oil lines will break loose, though this is typically back at the thermostat end input side.

I don't recommend heat. You are baking oil residue onto the inside of the tubes, and damaging the flex hose rubber.

Use PB blaster, it's a much better penetrant than liquid wrench.

As Jim says, you can also cut the nuts off. The hoses aren't that expensive to replace.

Kroil didn't work for me. I had to use the "wheel of death" as Dave Seeland calls it....the air powered cut-off wheel...to cut the nut....

Kroil is the best penetrating oil I have ever used, though.

Kind of trailer trash engineering....but I used a pair of vice grips....then put a pipe on each one. Obviously not on the arms that trigger the release....the other side....8^)

Then one person on one pipe, me on the other....snap. They cracked open.

I used a similar method to Mike but the other person was my foot. Not easy to break them apart and I ended up having new oil lines manufactured.

Gang:

I got them off. I spent $85 and bought 2 huge S&K wrenches (they must weigh 8lbs each). Brought them home and popped the first one off in like 2 minutes. The other one took a while longer, but in less than 15 minutes I had them both off.

I guess it truly pays to have the right tools...

I used to large Crescent wrenches with pipes added on the end for leverage.

I cut mine with a dremel, just enough to put a screwdriver in the cut and twist to split the nut. Do not want to cut the threads on the inside.
