Powder Coating Calipers

Some advice please guys. I have some 930 calipers for my 86 911 and some new rotors from Pelican. I want to change the colour of the calipers to red during the rebuild process.

1. Is powder coating better than painting?
2. When powder coating do you have the calipers rebuilt before coating or do after the rebuild, or doesn't it really matter?
3. Is the best way to remove the pistons from the calipers to hook them upto the brake lines on the vehicle or is compressed air best?
4. Any advice would be welcomed.

Thanks

David,

I had my calipers P. coated at a local stripping business. I was curious as to how the coating would hold up during DE's and/or hard driving and was told they would hold up fine....yet to test myself though.

Don't split the calipers, just remove the lines, pistons with some compressed air (bicycle pump will do) and the seals. The shop will be able to mask any openings. They will also bead blast and clean them up right before shooting and baking.

I used that brake paint that you see everywhere. After one season they look great and clean up very easily. I also put some PORSCHE sickers on them that also held up surprisingly well! Nice finishing touch.
