How many RPMs till trouble
I am amazed at the power my 85 3.2 has at red line. Darn good thing it has a rev limiter cause it would just keep on going. My question is how many RPM is too many. I have seen people state they reset their rev limit to 7500 after installing better springs and bolts. Just curious I would never reset mine. Every other car I ever had starts to puke around redline.

The power of the stock 3.2 starts to drop off around redline (but it's a freight train to that point). You won't really gain anything by increasing it unless you make other changes like new cams that move the powerband. That said Porsche used lighter weight intake valves in the clubsport and felt confident in moving the redline to 6840. I think with new valvetrain and better bolts you'd probably be good to 7000 or maybe even 7500 assuming that everything internally was in good shape.

The two weak areas are the rod bolts and the weight/inertia of the valve train when you go much past factory redline. If ARP or Raceware rod bolts are used, along with stronger valve springs / retainers and lighter valves, you may even go much further than 7500 rpm, but this is racing only territory.
