40mph in first?
I've clocked my car against the fiance's new Audi and have also used mile markers to be sure my speedo is correct. The results, it's about as close as it gets without being recalibrated by a shop.
So, here goes, at redline in first I'm going an indicated 42mph. I thought each gear was worth 30mph.? Theoretically, at redline in 5th I'm going to be doing 210mph!!!!!!! What's screwy with this equation? |
That's about right--I'm just over 40 in first, just over 70 in second. Some aerodynamic coeffient change thing is the real limiting factor, I think. It's enough for me to be able to break every posted speed limit in NC in second gear....

So on the Carreras, how fast are you going at each redline?
|
Hmm, if memory serves me correctly my 930 four speed can get up to about 50 MPH in first but I am bringing it down with a new ring and pinion.

AJ,
The G-50 Carreras are geared taller than your car ... don't try to match them in 1st gear! Your rod bolts won't take kindly to the resulting engine speeds! Here is an article you might be interested in ... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=75241&highlight=84+carr era+test |
G50 Carrera speed per gear
Gear ratio rpm speed 1st 12.040 6200 38.1 1st 12.040 6500 39.9 2nd 7.083 6200 64.8 2nd 7.083 6500 67.9 3rd 4.847 6200 94.6 3rd 4.847 6500 99.2 4th 3.870 6200 118.5 4th 3.870 6500 124.3 5th 3.058 6250 151.2 5th 3.058 6500 157.2 |
Formula to get speed is
speed=(rpm*tire dia in inches)/(336*gear ratio) |
