Tach opinions

Tach opinions

Currently the tach in my car isn't working, truthfully it hasn't worked since I got the car. I have some old work orders on it and the shop that installed the MSD ignition for the previous owner states that the tach is non-operational. I talked to a Ford/Camaro parts dealer the other day, and he said that an Autometer Tach will plug into the MSD and allow me to have a working tach. I was wondering if you guys are using Porsche Tachs? And if anyone was using an Autometer? Or can anyone suggest another tach that will work with the MSD?
Thanks in advance
Ryan

Most everyone is using the stock tach. It should work with an MSD ignition. VDO is a good name in gauges.

I have also seen some cars with autometer, but they are usually track cars and are using the expensive autometer competition gauges.

You could send your tach to Palo Alto Speedometer or North Hollywood Speedometer and have it repaired. Repairs usually run about $100. Then you could keep the stock look and the stock fit.

You might just need a tach adapter and everything could be just fine. It is a very easy install and should solve the problem. If in fact your tach is functional to begin with.

However I do run a Autometer Tach. It fits right in the stock whole, no brackets required, just a nice snug press fit. It plugs right into my MSD unit and was very easy to install. Looks good to. I will take a picture this weekend and post if for you.
