Do you think non original paint colour will effect value?

Hi guys,

I have a 1969 911T.

Just after everyones opinion. My car is originaly Irish Green. Although it has since been resprayed blue (poorly and along time ago so its faded)

I am in the near future going to have the car stripped back and resprayed. I am thinking silver or red.

Do you think, having the car not in its original paint colour will have much effect on its resale value?

Aussie,

No doubt others with more superior knowledge will chime in, but in my opinion - no it wont. Especially if you get it done properly. Plus, you will be enjoying your car in the colour of your choice which has got to be worth something too.

I agree with Victor. Make the color you want it and then take lots of pictures and post them!!!!

It's not a rare car, not a collector car. It's probably just as likely that a future buyer would not want a car painted in a late-'60s color that has long since gone out of style as it is that a buyer would not want a car painted in a non-legitimate color.

Ultimately, the vast majority of 911s are very nice used cars, not matching-numbers/Pebble Beach material.

If you don't have concours aspirations, paint it any color you like. If you do have concours aspirations, go buy an original car.

Have fun!

It would depend on what else you have done or not done to the car. It would also depend on what the buyer is after. If you were to do a color change that is very impressive and performed other upgrades/ mods then the car would appeal to someone wanting to purchase a non original car. A buyer looking for the original stock look would probably not give it a second thought. My suggestion would be for you to do what will put a big grin on your face and not worry about the resale value.

I bought a guards red 74 911 that was originally gulf blue. While most people probably prefer red, I actually wish it was original. Either way though I don't think it really impacted value. I think condition of paint is much more of a cost factor than correct color.

Like the others said. Unless you're thinking concourse, then na, it should be fine. Although, I would add, it would probably be best if you can stick with a stock color that Porsche did offer. My car has been re-sprayed "midnight blue metallic" off of the 996. Man, everyone freaks over it. "what color is that" etc. Even hardcore P-car folks!http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1060360232.jpg

In all fairness to this question, let's all do a reality check:
Car is a 1969, apparantly resprayed already.

Ask yourself...what is the market value of this car if it had it's *original* paint AND was in perfect condition. The car is well and truly fairly depreciated as it is. Now factor-in that even if you go back to the *original color*...it won't be the "original paint"... it will be a respray in thr original color. ...see my point?

This sort of hand-wringing always leaves me confused. The whole question has more validity if you're talking about an old vehicle with a particular documented history, or otherwise is of historical value, such as a racing car with pedigreed history. As much as we (personally) love our old cars..it's simply an old car that's already been resprayed. What sort of difference in resale value do you think there would be if you took full stock of the original question?

In looking over this note I realize it might come off rather blunt and strong, and that is not my intent...but c'mon ....

Irish green is a beautiful and understated color that makes the chrome on the car stand out. If it were my car I would return it to that color.

If I were in your situation (car has already been repainted), and I truly disliked the "original" color, I'd repaint it in a color I liked but of the same vintage as the car. (Personally, from '69, I like: Signal Yellow or Slate Gray)

Thanks everyone for your replies.

It confirms along the lines that I was thinking that if its done in another Porsche colour and the paint job is done well it shouldn't make any difference.

I just wasn't sure (and was just testing the waters), you know how some people get about every number on the car having to match.

I also love the Signal Yellow and the Tangerine.

Simon
