O2 sensor out, adjust fuel mixture manually?

My O2 sensor is not connected and Im waiting for my mechanic to get back into town so he can torch it and take it out of the cat (its rusted in).

With this sensor disconnected, Ive been told that the car (an 86) is now running "full rich".

Would it be advisable for me to manually adjust the mixture via the controller to compensate? In other words....should I purposely lean it out, until I can get the new O2 sensor in there?

thanks :)

Bump...

It would be great to get a better response than just "no".

Anyone?

Thanks.

Sonic, you are running a little richer, but mostly in your part thottle loading. Assuming your idle was already properly adjusted, leaning out the idle mixture screw will only make the car idle leaner than before. Your full throttle mixture remains unaffected because full throttle mapping is unaffected by the O2 sensor. Especially with a stock chip, it's not enough to be overly concerned about. I'd just leave everything alone until your mechanic gets back.

Makes sense...thanks Steve.

you can check the voltage at the O2 wire, if you want to get an accurate reading. i will bet that you have .400 or so volts wich is not really rich and not really lean.
