New flywheel seal broken in half, what happened? Pics follow:

Just installed, followed Projects 101 book, what went wrong?

I have a new seal, any suggestions on a better installation?

That sucks. I just read your other post. Looks like a badly manufatured seal. What brand? Go slow and easy and don't get it cocked at an angle when pressing it in. Those are pretty tough seals and shouldn't break like that following 101 as a guideline.

The broken one I got from a Porsche dealer! (Drove 70 miles each way) to get the part (and some others).

The new one is from Pelican. I'm assuming these can only be installed in only one direction?? The flat side outward toward the flywheel, is that correct?

The broken one looks like it seperated where the steel flex ring was.
