The auction ended just a bit short of my reserve, so I have adjusted the reserve and also added a buy-it-now price that is significantly lower than my previous reserve:

Wow Wayne, that must be a record for the number of pictures on a EBay advert. How did you do that?

Gosh, Wayne, I've NEVER seen such a complete info file on ANY eBay item being offered... If that doesn't convince the public about the "good faith", then I don't know. For the sake of buying your car, I'm very sorry I don't live in California... Looks like a nice car to me. But then, I'm happy with my '88 (and my wife -rightly- refuses me any other car unless I let the Carrera go, which I'm not ready for... Status Quo, then.

Well, you know, I have to be 100% revealing in everything that is up with the car, otherwise my reputation is at stake. I would hate for someone to buy it, have it shipped somewhere, only to find out that it's not exactly what they expected. That sortof happened a while back, where I had bought a car, but I hadn't inspected it very closely at all. Turned out to have a bunch of surprises. Then again, the car was sold so cheaply, that it shouldn't have been a problem.

That is by far the most comprehensive Ebay ad/sale I have ever seen. But experience tells me that you will still have questions and requests for additional pics!

Nice Job Wayne - good luck with the sale. Someday I will own a 356, but with 3 911s I currently have my hands full.

I love your site, I love your company, but your ad commits what I consider the most heinous Ebay sin...It's the number guessing game! (here comes my Ebay rant)

I've bought 2 cars off Ebay in the last year and I look at a lot of ads. If someone starts the bidding off at a really low number (say $100), and they have a reserve without a 'buy-it-now', the whole thing turns into "I'm thinking of a number" in 10 day increments! That can go on for months. As a serious buyer you have no idea if the guy really wants to sell, or if he's just smokin' crack... and there's a lot of crack smokers out there. When I was charting 911's last year, less than 10% achieved their reserve. It's not a big deal with your car, but with 911's there were enough so I just started to ignore those ads and moved on to people that you could see were actually going to sell their car. Anyway that's just my stupid opinion from someone on the Ebay buying side. (I feel better now) |

Well, I agree 100% with you. That is why I specially mentioned in the ad:

"I have purposely set a low reserve on this car (a few dollars over the value level for POOR condition + the nominal value of the odds and ends parts and rubber kit included)." I previously mentioned that the value of a POOR condition car was $9800. So, without stating exactly what my reserve is, I managed to give it away. A Buy-It-Now option that is too low jeopardizes you getting less than your car is worth, if you're not really sure of the market (and who really is?). A very high buy it now means that most people have set their reserve price to be unrealistic. There is no real happy medium. I let people know what the reserve is through the statement above (the actual reserve is $10K + $500 for the parts and rubber kit, or $10,500). If the car doesn't sell, I will probably pull the radio out, the CD player out, and try to sell it for $1000 less without the parts. It's a better deal with all the extras, but people never really seem to see that... -Wayne
