Start button or hot start relay kit?
 

I have problems with my starter system when the car is hot. It seems that sometimes there isn't enough current to the solenoid to trigger it.

I have tried to solve the problem but it keeps appearing once and a while.

- Battery checks fine
- New ground straps
- All starter connections cleaned
- Ignition switch is new
- Solenoid works fine when hotwired

I've decided to install either a hot start button or a hot start relay kit to get around the problem.
Which one should I use?
How and where should I install it?

Hot start relay is my suggestion. Pelican has it. Bosch part # is WR-1 if you look for European sources. Shipping from U.S. would cost more than the part. Dalhems (Sweden) may have it. Comes with instructions, and I think there are a few threads here if you do a search. Pretty easy install--trickiest part is finding a place to mount the relay. I drilled into the shell under the rear seat.

Almost any standard DIN relay [normally open contacts] could be used. I suggest mounting on the fuse/relay/regulator/CDI-unit panel in the engine compartment.

Per the following diagram ...

#1 is the battery

#2 is the starter

#31 is the ignition switch

Relay connections:

Yellow wire to terminal #50 on starter solenoid -- from ignition switch -- can be intercepted at 14-pin connector ... and wired to relay input, instead -- terminal #86. Ground to terminal #85. Run a heavy wire, 12 ga, from one of the heavy Red wires at the 3-position fuse block to terminal #30 of the relay. Run a heavy, 12 ga Yellow wire from terminal #87 of the relay to terminal #1 of the rear 14-pin connector ... that mates to the engine wiring harness.

An option would be to connect a remote starter switch [mounted on the relay/fuse panel] from an unused fuse position to the trigger/control lead of the relay, terminal #86.

What if I want to replace the last few feet of the yellow cable from the new relay to the solenoid? How is the original cable routed?
