Question 70 fuel injection problems

Got the car on the road. Wow it's fun to drive. I have some minor problems with the fuel injection. 70 Bosch mechanical system.
1. Has to be cranked for long time and pump pedal to start it.
Starts fine after that unless car sits for couple hours.
2. Sometimes the idle seems to hang up around 2300. All bell crank bushing have been replaced(it can be done in the car)
Linkage is free.
3. Car bobbles and farts on acceleration until over 3500 rpm but idles fine at 1100, nice and smooth. It seems like it is getting to much fuel. Is there an enrichment device for cold starts that is not shutting off.

I read about check valve problems and wonder if thea is why it is hard to start.

Thanks guys
Kevin

Needs to be cranked for a long time before starting - check thermotime switch
Idles sometimes around 2300 - If it's only sometimes then it could be just the linkage or cable sticking, but it doesn't sound like your speed switch is working because that would operate the fuel shut off solonoid (with foot off pedal at those rpm)

I would suggest printing the MFI check and adjust. Don't dive in and adjust the pump though straight away, just do it bit by bit, check the timing first make sure the vacuum from one and four is ok to the dist. as you do each little job your car will improve.

Kevin,

Have you tried to adjust the idle down to 900 rpm?

Have you checked the distributor advance curve ... to see if the distributor centrifugal advance mechanism is operating properly and smoothly, or if it might be sticking?

MFI fuel pumps don 't have a replaceable check valve ... that is on CIS engines!

mfi starting problem

Kevin,

As for your starting problem, check condition of the cold start solenoid, and fuel hose that runs from the solenoid to the tubes inside of the air cleaner assembly that spray raw fuel into the stacks of your mfi fuel system. When I first got my car, it wouldn't start worth a damn. I found the hose and tubes clogged to the point that raw gas would not pass through them. Cleaned them with carb cleaner and high pressure air. Have also found that the engine starts better cold if I wait approx 15-20 seconds after I turn the ignition key to the on position before I turn it to the start position. This gives the electric fuel pump plenty of time to move raw fuel from the tank to the cold start and mfi fuel systems.

Hope this helps! Good luck!!
