There is more than one part number.
There's an old part number (which I don't know) and then the latest part number is the 911.606.910.01 number that Ron lists. A tech tip in a Porsche parts manual claims that an updated/improved part was installed as of 11/86. It says that when a sender is replaced, a new retaining spring (part number 964.606.219.00) should be used and it's important for the sender to be clean and straight into the trans. or you could get an incorrect speedo reading.
The sender is a magnetic sensor that reads the rotational movement of the ring gear inside the trans. The ring gear has magnets cast into it which are evenly spaced around the circumference of the gear. So if you were to get little bits of metal stuck to the magnets, you could get an incorrect reading? I cleaned off all the metal residue on mine when I had the trans. out during a clutch replacement. I don't know if it made any difference because I did not have a problem with the speedo.
