930S Wheel on an early car
Anyone installed a 930S wheel on an early car? I am thinking about the upgrade and was wondering what it might look like and if I will need the spacer. The tech article on the board looks simple enough but is done on a later car. It appears that the early cars have a slightly different arrangement for turning signal placement. Last Q, do I need a new horn contact pin with the new wheel. Thanks!!!
Pete

Had no problems installing the 930S wheel in my 71. Took all of 15 minutes. Cant tell you about the horn thing since mine hasnt worked in many years, but everything hooked up just fine.
Do a quick search, I remember this same question when I was installing mine early this year. Oh I have driven it with and without the spacer and I prefer without as I have long arms. The view of the gauges is obstructed more with out the spacer though.

Here's a pic of the dash clearance with the hub adapter supplied by Pelican but without a spacer:
![]() One big problem is that the holes in the early style turn signal cancelling ring don't match up with the adapter. It's not like it misses by just a little, either--there was absolutely no way to fit the adapter and have the tab at 9:00 where it needs to be. I ended up drilling new holes in the ring and it worked fine. |

The install looks great and if I can save on the adapter all the better! How is the reach to the turn signals? Does it feel normal? As far as the instruments go what is obstructed? Did the adapter come with an extra long horn contact pin?
My current original wheel has no leather on it, the centre piece floats since the rubber bushing is missing and with my new horn contact pin (short one) the horn only works on 1 side. I thought the 930S wheel may be a nice solution to my problem. Pete

I'm not sure what you mean by "extra long horn contact pin". The pin contacts the ring all the way around just fine, but it doesn't seem especially long. I sit pretty high up, so the view of the tach is about the same. It might be better if you sit lower.
I was replacing an aftermarket wheel with the 930S, so maybe my expectations weren't the same as yours. It's at least another 1/2-3/4" reach to the turn signal stalk. I don't believe that any spacer kit relocates those controls closer to the driver. The way I look at it--the gain from improving the driver's relationship with the wheel 100% of the time far outweighs an occasional reach to signal a turn or flick the high beams .1% of the time. |

My install on the 83 required a better ground contact....had to scratch some paint off between the steering wheel and the hub adapter.....otherwise the horn would not work.

Horn Contact Pin
Maybe I was unclear regarding the contact pin. Since I replaced mine recently from memory the pin goes thru the old wheel to the contact ring. I am guessing the pin now goes into the new contact ring?? I assume also with the new wheel I will not have a problem with the horn only working on one side of my wheel? Do all earlier wheels only contact the horn on the right side?

I think there is one adapter for the early cars, and another for the later cars.
I have a 930S wheel and the adapter for the later cars, but I want to put the wheel on my early car. Anybody know if the mods above will do that? |

Completely different adapter. Pelican sent me the late adapter first by mistake, and it's completely different. Here's a side-by-side of the late 930S adapter (left) and a Momo early adapter (right). The early adapter goes deeper into the steering column to grab the splines.

Thanks -- Now how can I buy just the early adapter? It's not in the P'can database... also AJ USA didn't respond to my Email on this.

Adapter
I spoke to Steve @ Pellican yesterday and left him a voice mail today. Hopefully he will be able to get me an answer. I want one for my birthday
