What is Exact Sanden Compressor Model Number?

I have an '82 911SC with a dead York compressor. I see many posts extolling the virtues of retrofitting a Sanden compressor (and the required adapter plate). But what I don't see is the model number that best suits the retrofit. I see one post that points to the Sanden 507, but there are several flavors of the 507. Can someone tell me what the EXACT model number that I need is? I'm running R12 (freon).

Thanks.

You need to buy a model that has flare fittings and the correct pulley for the fan belt. That is why there is so many different variation on the sanden 507 compressor. Note Sanden is no longer producing the 507 series of compressor, and I think they were in the process of phasing out the production of R12 compatible compressor (different fittings for access to the system).

I think to get the right Sanden you should just purchase it from a Porsche part supplier such as Vertex, Griffith, Performanace Aire, etc.

Here's a Sanden "Rosetta Stone":

Exact Model Number of Sanden Compressor?

Will some kind soul who has retrofitted their 911 with a Sanden compressor and has NOT had to change the original flared hose fittings to O-ring fittings please check the model number of the compressor and post it? Some web sleuthing leads me to the Sanden SD508 model 8390 as the one with flare fittings (like the original York compressor) and R12-style charging ports. Every new rotary or rotary-style compressor I've followed up on has O-ring fittings, not flare fittings, and thus requires me to change the hoses.

Thanks.

The above adapters allow one to connect flare hose fitttings to o-ring ports on a compressor or receiver/drier.

Rob,
Mine was retrofitted to a Sanden (by PO) and it still uses flare fittings and R12.

I could not find a model number but the plate on its underside states it is a SD-507; serial number 58211200.

SD 507 Model no. 9173 has flare fittings and charging ports for R12.

You should confirm that the flare fittings are the same size as the Yorkie.

This is the model that I brought in the event that I decide to upgrade the Yorkie compressor, but I'm leaning more and more to the Seiko-Seiki rotary compressor.

I had the Yorkie removed and replaced with a 507 with R-134A. I took the completed install to the local AC shop and they took out their handy dandy hand swedge machine and installed the new O ring fiittings on the hoses and it was less than 30 mins. I was told that not all AC shops have this handy dandy machine. my 2Cents
