1968 911/912 opinions

So here is the story.......came aross this very nice looking 911 online..... I am in the middle of a extensive restoration on my 70E and while i enjoy working on my porsche id like to be driving one even more. So in my patrols of internet sights i come across this car at a very reasonable price. I contact the owner who is without doubt a porsche novice and has had the car for the past 3 years. He purchased it from a local porsche mechanic who moved to Canada, so i tell the owner that if everything checks out id take the car but to please send me the vin and the engine numbers. Turns out the car is a 68 912 that has had a swap to a 911 motor. Not a good thing but the car has PMOs, new tires, looks very nice and has the suspension upgraded. The owner in the last 8 months has spent 1800 on assorted issues, new seals, rebuilt alt. new batery, ect. The had a repaint 5 years ago nad looks nice. The PO was actuallty the one who discovered that the car was a 912 so i made a reduced ofer and we struck a deal. What do you guys think of the car and how much is it worth? The pics i have are to big so if i can email them to someone and they resize and post them that would be great. Thanks.

912

Well, I have a 68 912 with a 911 2.2 engine. I have a nitrous
setup and I give most new vette's a hard time! The 66-68
912's had the short wheelbase. You didn't say what size
engine the car has. This month's issue of excellence lists
the value of 912's as increasing in value. Certainly PMO's
are rather expensive. I only briefly looked at the new issue
and as I recall 66-68 912's are a low of $3k to 12k. It's
hard to put a dollar figure on a car that's not original but
it's fair to say that if the car is in decent shape and suppose
the engine is a 911T motor (2 liter) then perhaps $4500 to
$7000.

This is a pretty simple thing to learn to do with a freeware imaging program like IrfanView. Go to this site and download the viewer appropriate for your operating system and install it. Open the image you want to change and select "Resize" from the "Image" menu, and save the smaller image as a jpeg to post to this board (pixel size should probably be under 600 width).

The '68s get a bad rap for some reason but I can tell you first hand...mine is fantastic.

Go for it and enjoy the ride.
