ARRRGH! A/C Fan kicking my BUTT!!!

OK, UNCLE! I've futzed around with this thing long enough. Pulled the evaporator box to clean, re-seal, and fix the vibrating fan. The fan works OK on low and medium, but on high it vibrates making an awful racket, sometimes intermittently.

Put the cage on a shaft, chucked it up in the drill press and watched it. Looks like it's out of round. Tried re-forming (bending) it to get it back in shape with no joy.

Is this part spared? Searched Pelican, but my guess is that it would be on the "coming soon" A/C parts section. I don't even want to know what the dealer would want for it...

I priced just the motor from Pelican, it wasn't too bad, had to call and have them check into it, I think the motor alone was $90. Post an ad here (classifieds) or on rennlist wanting ac parts, lots of race cars out there with stripped ac......
Such a pain to work on, you don't want to do it twice..yuk

Thanks. Yeah, I've already done it several times, pulling the evaporator box out and taking it apart. Not much fun, especially when I had everything sealed up nice and tight with Presstite-style tape. Yuck is right! I'll try the classified section and see if anyone has a good fan that they will part with. Maybe Wayne can tell me if he can get them new. Hopefully not to many $$$$.

Mine had little clip weights on the squirrel cage fan in various spots to balance it. Perhaps yours threw a weight. Chuck it back up in the drill press and experiment by adding little pieces of foil tape to balance.

Actually, I'm not sure it will work but the thought of a guy spending all afternoon trying to balance his blower fan with tape I find amusing...

Well... actually I have already tried that, but I was using some thin brass stock and a shaft balanced across some "knife edges". No luck. The squirrel cage is actually bent and doesn't seem repairable as I've already spent several hours trying to reform it. Looks like I'll need a good used one or a (gulp) new one.

Anybody got a decent A/C fan that they'll let go for cheap?

I hate to mention the name, but since Pelican didn't have the part last year, I ordered the fan and cage from Vertex. Price wasn't that bad if I rememeber correctly, under 200 bucks.

Just talked to Stephen at Pelican. They can get the squirrel cage for me. A little pricey as it's a Porsche order part (no OEM or aftermarket available). It's $104.78 and they can get it in a day. Not sure what to do. Take my chances with a used one, or get new and guaranteed? I don't really relish the idea of getting a used one installed and find out that it too has "issues", although I'm getting real good at R&R'ing the evaporator assembly. What to do, what to do...
