End of the road - the SC is gone

Well, my SC boarded a trailer today headed for Vale Colorado with its new owner. After a little over a year of ownership, it was hard to see it go. Even though I'd owned the car for only 1/22 of its life, the long hours of work I put into it made it "my car."

I've had a few people ask me today whether I regretted buying the car. After all, I only had it one year, I dumped a lot of money into it, and got somewhat less for it than I had hoped. I tell them that I don't regret one minute of it. I've met a lot of great Porsche people over the last year, both online at places like Pelican, and in the local PCA. In one short year, I learned nearly everything there is to know about an SC. I posted over 500 times here at Pelican with questions. I went from not having ever worked on cars to installing hydraulic chain tensioners, adjusting valves, rebuilding pedal clusters, and changing brake pads on the SC. And, I truly did love the car. We had some tough times, but overall it was a great journey. And, when you love something, you don't count the pennies (or the thousands of dollars, as the case may be). I'm going to miss her.

I would like to give a special thank you to all the people on this Board who offered maintenance advice, helpful tips, and solace when the going got tough. This Board is a tremendous resource - I could not imagine owning the SC without the help and encouragement of the people on this Board. I'll still hang around, helping where I can. Hopefully, I can do for others what so many have done for me.

So, the time has come to hand in my SCWDP membership card (though I still have the shirt!). I'll be back someday with another 911 - it may not even be too far down the road. But right now, there's an immaculate Boxster sitting 10 miles away with my name on it. I figure I'll give it a go for awhile - it can't be as bad as everyone says

So long for now. I'll still be reading the Board often, but I doubt I will post as much as I have. Thanks again to everyone here - you helped to make Porsche ownership one of the most rewarding experiences of my life.

Pics of the SC in the trailer before its trip to Vale CO.

Beautiful car, Steve...I know it must have been hard to see that one leave. I myself have always wanted one in white and I'm sure yours reflected the same pride in ownership that shows in mine. Did you encourage the new owner to join the board? And gee, what the hell, keep on postin' here...a little Boxter blood won't hurt anybody on this board! Only one post per week allowed of course...

Yeah. Why do you have to quit just because you sold your SC? Is it because we bust on Boxsters so much? And speaking of unloading your SC, why the hell has Leland disappeared? Lots of folks join this board before they own a Porsche. Why do they have to leave once they sell it? I mean, as long as you're not buying a Cayenne, you should stick around.

I have to say, that was my first thought: You'll be back. Be sure to post some of your new Boxster photos!

I've enjoyed your posts, Steve. Hope you do hang around, or return with another 911. Jim Miller's Boxster kicks my @$$ at autocross. The new owner of your SC is getting some terrific value for his motoring dollar. Regardless of the selling price.

I in fact got a hunch that, as time goes by, there may be more Boxster owners having saled away from 911-land.
It's just a matter of figures - figures don't it?

Congrats on the 986. Stick around even if some are a little unfair to the Boxster. It's still a damn fine car. Post some pictures

I didn't mean to say that I would be leaving the Board - I'll just be leaving "911 land." I'll still read the Board and post often - what else do I have to do at work? I appreciate everyone's comments.

The new owner will be turning the SC into a stock-class PCA racer. The guy's name is Bob Polich - some of you may know him. He's already a pretty serious club racer with his 944 Turbo. Supposedly, his wife wants to start racing, and she wants the 944, so he bought the SC for himself. He's going to try to prepare it enough to race in a couple weeks. I don't know if he'll make it, but he said it would definitely be ready for next summer. He even said he'll be racing at our local track, so I'll probably see the old girl next summer - I hope I still recognize her.

I'll definitely post pics of the Boxster when I get it, hopefully towards the end of this week - it really is a beautiful car.

Thanks for the support. Hopefully my future posts will get you guys to respect the Boxster a little more

Steve--congrats on the sale of your car and looking forward to seeing your new Boxter. Give me a call/email and I'd like to come see it and hopefully get a ride in it when you're ready. Lots of track time this year down at MAM remaining.

Congratulations on the sale Steve (we actually exchanged a few e-mails on the car a few weeks back). Enjoy the Boxter.

Steve in ten years the sc cars will be disapearing and the boxter will be the peoples car, my wife would pay you if you could get me to sell my 911 and buy a boxter, The Porsche addiction can be terrible when it settles in, 4 Porsches again I sold it because i was tired of it, my wife was glad when i sold that first one and pizzed when I pulled up the next day in a different one, ive had this one 6 years (4th one), its a lawn ornament, good luck with the boxter and hang out with us its good to have you, I really like some of the spy photos of the new hard top Boxter, Kevin

S'OKay, Steve...at least you're not talking RICE as an SC replacement...

Sounds like it went to good parents, Bob and Deb will take good care of it.
