" Missing" Issue Resolved

Quote:

Have an '86 911 turbo that has has a bad firing cylinder. Installed new set of plugs, Magnecors, rotor, and distributor cap. Stll have the "miss". Would a slowly dying coil cause one cylinder to misfire ? Any other thoughts what to check next ?
Thanks to all whom replied to my original post. As a last ditch effort, after checking everything a 3rd time ( firing order, wires secure on plugs and distributor cap, etc ), I added a bottle of injector cleaner to the fuel. Fired her up with "miss" and all. Went out for a drive and as temp came up to operating range, progessively drove harder. Within a few minutes the "Miss" decreased and now is all but gone. In retrospect, I should of tried this 1st, rather than going through the cost and labor of new plugs, wires, etc. On the flip side, probably would of needed to do all of this at some point, and as a novice Porsche owner, it did give me some satisfaction that I did it myself and raised my confidence level. Maybe I'll try replacing the injectors as well !

Again, thanks to all whom provided worthwhile advice ! ;)

I'm surprised nobody suggested Techron when you had the problem initially. It works wonders. Some people say you should drive the car for a few hundred miles after using it, and then drain the oil. It's reputed to deposit gunk into the oil as a result of its cleaning of the fuel system.

Congrats on solving the problem.

Right Scott. The guy sitting in the next cube from me has an older Ford Explorer which he's had to the shop for months now because of an idle that sometimes quits but mostly oscilates like: vroom...put put...vroom, etc. Told him last Friday to give Techron a try. He did and he said it idles perfectly now and he's only halfway through his tank of gas. If you're using some other kindof fuel injector cleaner, go put in some Techron. You can get it at Walmart or Checker (I'm sure other places too). Good luck!
