1966 Opening Window Vents

I have removed the window frame from the door.

I am in the process now of replacing the rubber seal that goes around the opening vent window on my 911.

To get the vent glass and frame out, I first removed the snap ring on the lower stud.

I than pushed down on the vent window to compress the rubber gasket enough to pop the upper "Hinge" stud out.

I then was able to pull the window out.

So basically the lower stud comes out thru the top of its hole.

Is this the correct way to take this window out ?

Also the upper stud is very small and pathetic looking. It is about the size of the head of a pencil tip and and appears to be cast into the frame.

Is this what it is suppose to look like ? It has worked fine over the years but looks pretty fragile now that I see it up close and personal.

I am just a little concerned that when I go to reassemble this vent window with the new seal that it is going to be lot harder to compress the seal to reverse the process described above and consequently put more stress on the fragile looking upper stud.

Wow !!

I thought I would get at least one answer before my question got bumped from the first page.

Maybe I should have tried the 912 board !

Don, it has been years since I did this on my '67, but don't remember it being that big a deal. Especially compared to some of the other molding! Seems there was a clip at the bottom, take that off, swing it out, pulling the pin out at the top. Install in reverse order. It is great getting the new one in! I don't remember the pin being cast into the frame, but sure it was the same....

Good luck.

Doug,

Thanks !

A friend of mine said the same thing as you , It was 30 years ago the last time he did one.

I hope I can say the same thing to some one 30 years from now. Lets see that would put me at 80 +/_ a year - ouch !!
