Starting problem
I took my car to a guy that just does Porsches. He adjusted my points (should have done myself - still learning) and the car ran great. Well I have probably driven less than 100 miles since adjustment. Well I the other day when I went to start the car fired up and then immediately died. My neighbor adjusted the points and the car still didn't start. I was getting power to the permatune but nothing at the ignition coil. I could swear that from problems I had in the past that I would not be able to read if I was getting voltage at the IC. Well, I went and bought a new coil and the car did start but ran terribly. Very quiet and really low rpm's, like 200 - 300. I shut down and haven't looked at since. Now I think my neighbor set the points to .3 mm and i believe it should be .35mm. Would that make a huge difference? Also there was a bit of pitting on one of the points and the contact plate that makes the points open and close is a bit worn. I am thinking the pit on one of the points is not the problem where I had a pro look at it a few weeks earlier and he did not mention anything. This guy came highly recommended from a lot of people so I am not worried about his work. I am just wondering if pits on points happen really fast or is it a gradual process? Also, since I need to order new points anyways, does that include the whole mechanism or just the two points and what is the name of the whole mechanism?
Thanks.
