European turbo?

I have an idea that my recently acquired '86 turbo was purchased in Germany. (the speedometer shop repairing the speedo had to reset the odometer from kilos to miles + the first entry in the service log is German)

Would this car be set up differently than one purchased from a dealer in this country?

How can I determine if, in fact, it is European?

Thanks,

Ken

Have you checked the VIN number? I seem to remember 'ZZZ' in the VIN indicating a ROW(rest of world) car. I don't know if this applies to turbos though.

The VIN on the windshield A pillar will have ZZZ in it. You could also have side door beams installed. Side door beams will show up as a plate with usually hex head screws holding it on on the trailing edge of the door. Other possibilities are H4 headlights with a city light, amber rear turn signals, side marker turn signals on the fenders, euro pre-muffler (instead of cat), no wrap around lights on the front bumper, and I'm sure many more. Most of these things are changed over when the car is federalized though. The easiest way to tell though is by the ZZZ in the VIN.

I'm not too knowledgeable about the 930s, but ROW cars sometimes had higher horse power. For example in 81 the ROW SC had 204 while the US spec had 180. ROW cars usually had less safety features such as lighter bumpers, no side door beams, less sound deadening material, and sometimes the windshields were not laminated. This also usually makes them lighter.

I'm no expert and I am learning a lot about ROW cars as I go so I could have missed some things.

If it is a stock ROW car it will have 300 hp, compared to the 282 hp for stock US cars. Did not have the smog equipment in Europe.
