turn signal on, no headlights, doh!!!

I was driving to work this morning, and as i went over an expansion joint on a bridge, i thought i saw my headlights flicker. Then a bit later, i used my turn signal and my headlights went completely off. the came back on after switching the turn signal back on. I was able to replicate the problem in the parking garage. It doesn't seem to have a preference to left or right signaling, the headlights go out sometimes, sometimes they don't.
what do you guys think, bad ground?

Probably a fried turn signal stalk. It's a common problem. Part is about $75 and takes about 2 hrs. to install. I'd add headlight relays before I use high beams with the new stalk.

do a search on headlight and relay and you'll find a bunch of threads, some with pictures of how/what to do.

I had the identical problem. I replaced my signal/brights switch, and the problem was solved. It's a bit time consuming, as you have to wire the new signal/brights switch into the back of the headlight switch. Go slow, and do it one wire at a time. It's not a difficult job.

As to relays, Marcus Sucro sells a relay kit for about $20. Do a search on the board for "sucro", you'll find your answers.

With time the switch wears out. It is only a spring inside the body of the turn signal housing. If it happens on the road a small firm piece of something(plastic, wood etc) can be wedged in against the spring to get the lights to stay on.
