Early 930 "Turbo" script on fenders?
I was wondering if anyone had a better photo of the phantom "Turbo" script decal that wrapped around the back of the early 930's? I believe they were a factory option. Can anyone provide more details on these?
This is the best picture I could find. If you look real closely, you can make out that the grey stripe reads "Turbo" on the backside of each rear fender flare. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1061724158.jpg Thanks! |
there are 9 individual decals that list at anywhere from $99 to $150 each! the PET shows more of a "strobe" type sticker, while your photo shows what appears to be a solid decal.
EDIT: the strobe, or hatched illustration is for the 80s turbos. the illustration for the 76-77 turbo shows a solid decal, like in your picture. but, the description of the decals refer to them as 'hatched', and they are the same part number as the newer ones. Possibly a superceded part number?? I could post a picture of the illustration but it is quite vague at best. max |
Thanks for the details Max. BTW, how's the car?
Now does anyone have any better pictures? I've only seen these decals once in person and I was about 8 years old at the time! |
I'm still checking but I did find this pic that shows a decal ( hard to see ) that looks like it might be part of the same set to balance the front of the car with the rear decal in your pic ? :) http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1061766719.jpg
It tapers back from the headlight. |
I remember going to high school in Seattle. The traffic there is monstrous going from the "eastside" to down town. There was a white Turbo (exact car as in the pics above) with this script parked at the Metro bus stop every morning where the buses went down town. You know the traffic is bad if some one who can afford a new turbo is willing to leave it at the bus stop!!
Any way I used to fantasize more about that car than girls!! Love that script!! |
Yeah, that's what I'm talking about! :) Thanks Bob, for providing those pictures & the little blurb. May I ask from which book was that taken?
And does anyone happen to have any more photos like these? Cheers! |
The pic with info was from the 911/912/930 Authenticity series by Mark Haab, 1995 SmileWavy

Elombard,
Yes, I will never forget being at my grandparent's house as a child and seeing the neighbors' brand new pair of 930's. The father of the family bought one for himself and one for his son. The father's car was white with the "Turbo" script in black and the son's car was blue with the script in white. This was back around 1976 or 77. That was my first experience of seeing a 930 in person and they left a lasting impression on me. Now I own one. :D |

Here's another scanned from a 911 buyer's guide:
