Houston Pelican Heads meet again...

Guys,

It's been too long since our last meeting. I really enjoyed our first one (breakfast, good conversation, nice run, beer, and more good conversation).

We have the DE at TWS this weekend, so how about the weekend after that (Saturday, Aug. 23rd)?

Let's meet for breakfast, your choice, and go for a drive. I'd like to see if I can keep up with David's new toy, too.

Craig

Hmm, how about Sunday. Sat is my big 33, so I'll be hanging with the family.

Saturday's good for me but maybe not for the car. I've installed new Bilstein front sport shocks and ball joints. I'm also rebuilding the brake calipers and installing stainless brake lines. I got looking at the old tired brake calipers last night and decided I'm going to repaint them red while I'm rebuilding them. Since I don't have the paint or the dust seals needed for the rebuild I doubt I'll be done by next weekend.

I'll be at the DE thiscoming weekend, and then at a race at Hallett the following weekend of the 22/23rd. My first race in my new SRF! Nope, I'm not nervous, NAWWWW. I'd invite you to come spectate, but Tulsa is a long drive for anybody. How about going out for dinner the Saturday night of this DE weekend - who's all going?

At the last DE, Robert rented a Spec Racer Ford (SRF). I suppose he plunked down the $17K to $25K for a used or new one. This is a very competitive class of SCCA (see more at www.scca.org). The cars are supposed to be set up the same so the difference is between driver skill, not driver pocket book. Basis Roberts skill at Kartzone, I suppose he will do good. I'll be watching and hopefully competing with him.

I think Robert is asking you guys to meet us at the DE this weekend and we can all go for dinner. If that doesn't happen, it looks like we could meet the next weekend.

Steve, the last time we met for breakfast & etc. it was my 40th B-day. Can't you get some free time on Saturday?

Anyone heard from Mike? He seems to have dissapeared over the course of the last few meets.

Geez, his car burnt. Last I heard he was looking for a Boxster. He might be trying to salvage the 911, too.

Yup, the fast guys lap the TWS 2.9 at 1:55, even 1:54. I was able to put up decent mid-pack numbers in a Speedstar rental; whethe my own car is at the same state of tune, and how I handle wheel:wheel traffic, remains to be seen!

And some body-off shots before the last paintjob:

Robert, I really like the Racer X color scheme. Just to be clear, it was white and now it's yellow/black or visa versa? And where do you park it? Man, I'd really like to join you next season. We can talk about that at the track this weekend.

Princeton, Mike just got a new a/c compressor, hoses, etc. installed and driving home he heard a pissst and looked back to see flames. He drove into a stop-and-go, but by the time the flames where out, it was toast. Fortunately his insurance covered it. We were considering to make it a race car, but the insurance company wanted too much for it. I'll be sure to say hi, if and when I talk to him next.

82Euro, I think the plan is to either meet for dinner this Sat. night in College Station or to meet Sat. or Sun. in Houston for breakfast/funrun. You are more than welcome to join us. Stay tuned.

Princeton, if we do meet on Sat. night, I'll call your cell phone. We will be at Texas World Speedway this weekend anyway. I was hoping we all could meet for breakfast if ya'll don't come out to the track this weekend.

David, shocks, brakes, joints, etc. Man get that car running so we can play. When do you think it will be ready?

Tad, that's you! Is that your car on the front cover of the Pnaut? They even talked about you in the article.

David, the track and other DE info is all at www.lsrpca.com. Where is Groesbeck?

I had the dates confused on when the 930 will be running. I should have it running this weekend. It's not quite ready for a DE yet. I'd like to change the clutch and freshen up the engine a little first. A rollbar and harnesses would be nice too. Hopefully next season since I'm giving up kart racing for a while until I can actually afford it.

Robert, don't get me wrong, I aspire to race a SRF, but last year at TWS on the 2.9 mile course I turned a 1:51.584 in my shifter kart while the winner turned a 1:50.462.

Who all's going to the DE this weekend? I'm somewhat tempted to drive up even if it's not in the P-car.

Hey David,

Robert will be there in his new SRF and promised to let all of us drive it (right!). I will be there for sure. Princeton might be there on Saturday night. Groesbeck might be there.

The LSR PCA usually meets at T-Bones on University Blvd on Saturday night. Also, anyone showing up on Saturday or Sunday at noon, can lap the track about 3-4 times at 45 mph. Pretty slow, but you get a feel of the track.

David, bring your kart and kick some ass during the parade laps (he he he). But it would be better if you brought your 930 turbo, so I can use it on one of my sessions.
