Server Performance?

I've been experiencing a few odd problems with the server lately. Anyone else noticed anything amiss?

Some pages are fine and some you get a blank. Speed normal.

Wayne this site rocks! Many others I lurk in are painfully slow. Speed is what makes this bbs such blast to be on. Your efforts and expense in making and keeping it that way are greatly appreciated.

I'm actually experiencing both. My linux box with opera on a bellsouth DSL line is kinda spotty. It's kinda slow and iffy but every other website seems fine. At work (University computer running XP and IE) PPBBS runs great without any slowdown.

OK.... would you believe that when I hit submit Reply I got a Page cannot be displayed error !!! I guess I spoke too soon !

adamred 08-26-2003 02:01 PM

Even on a t-1 mine seems to load just a hair slower then I am used to, but considering the dreck out there, it still rocks!

Wayne,

No speed problems noticed in the past week ...

However, a couple of new problems noticed just today ... never seen before:

1. 'Unspecified seerver Error encountered' message from IE 5.5 has been seen on three ocassions today ... upon attempting a browser reload/refresh. In every case the next refresh completed successfully.

2. On two ocassions today the browser 'Back' button did not work after a) posting a message, and b) editing a posting.

I seem to have a problem early on Sunday mornings. I just figured you were running a defrag utility. Otherwise, everything has been ok.

JSDSKI 08-26-2003 02:33 PM

Some trouble connecting over weekend. I thought it was the phone company paint crew or the SoBig thing ... None over the last few days tho.... great site!!!

johncj8989 08-26-2003 02:51 PM

Im having problems downloading the nude pi.......... uh.....sorry, wrong website :-)

Its running great Wayne!

The Internet Explorer problems are related to Microsoft bugs - nothing I can do about them. I upgraded to version 6, and it got 10X worse. I think it might be related to our compression algorithmsm, which help make the pages load faster...

No problems here. Netscape 7.02

Quicksilver 08-26-2003 04:51 PM

On Sunday at about 10AM I tried to connect and the route to your server was down. It was down for at least an hour. I did a tracert and the last router I could see was about 5 hops into xo.net. Is your server hanging off of their network? (maybe XO spent so much on cheesy ads that they can't keep their network going!)

I have been experiencing lots of problems when replying to threads. Also a few slow periods. Figured it was my ISP. I assume that problems when replying are related to MSIE. I run a server for my company, and have painfully learned to resist the urge to upgrade any software when I have found a stable set up. I usually wait until the software is at least two versions ahead until I upgrade. Unfortunately you cannot do that though when there is a virus or other problem that requires an upgrade so I understand where your coming from.

Better today, the last couple of days were slow.
