Karting in the Bay Area

Not exactly "running with the big boy's", but for those who want to let loose with rental equipment this is the way to go. These are the semi-real Karts, not the 8mph kiddie toys at Disneyland.

The Karts don't have any connection to real driving (super slick traction, no torque etc..) and get clustered with more than a few drivers on the track, but they supposedly get up to 45mph and on a few turns you actually get the sensation of that "Oh $hirt" speed plus there are mid-week special for $60-75 for 4 hours.

Some friends and I went for a half hour and definitly enjoyed it. One even puked. Keep the throttle mashed and tap the break and lean into it to get around the corners and above all kepp the momentum up.

A group of friends and I are going for an 'arrive and drive' soon at eastern creek raceway here in Aus.

The karts are 13hp. Note sure how they stack up against the karts u had, but i'm sure it will be fun.

I guess the plan is to keep the momentum up like u said. No breaking mid turn and use the whole circuit.

karting has kept me from tracking my car. i went to speedrink in santa clara and bought a kart about 3 months later after much research. its a flat out blast. i belong and race with the atwater kart club and the wheel to wheel is fantastic. it has greatly helped my driving skills in my car.

the throttle on and perfect turns keep the momentum up for sure. but as you get better you will realize that some braking in the turns acually helps get the backend around quicker in the turns. helps lighten the inside rear so as to not scrub off so much speed with the solid rear axel.

highly recommended, bring your own helmet and suit to the rental places. the gear they have smells like something has died in them. the helmet nearly made me hurl.

if anybody in the bay area or central california is intrested email me and i can link you to a couple of arrive and drive testing sessions done by local distributers. they meet you at the track and let you test one of their karts for a few laps.
