Quick Questione

My 1982 sc has been running very rough and I am checking all the CIS components for correct working. Does any one know what the Auxilliary air valve does, what happens when it goes wrong and how it can be tested? I can find plenty of data for checking the Auxilliary air regulator and WUR which so far have checked out OK

Thanks

Bruce B

Can I ask if you have done anything recently to cause this? Did this happen suddenly or over time?

I ask because even one bad tank of gas can cause all kinds of problems, so knowing the details might help the diagnosis.

The auxilary air valve bypasses air past the throttle to the intake in order to raise rpm during cold start warm up. Usually you'll know if it's working when you first start the car and it idles at 1.8k to 2k rpm for half a minute or so and then lower down to normal idle. If by "running rough" you mean that until it warms up it stumbles a lot and idles way too low until your warmed up then this would probably be the problem.
