Please help me decide what to do
My wife and I currently own a nice 79 SC that has been modified extensively for DE’s, so much so that it is kind of a pain to drive on the street. And it is getting a little beat up.
I also have a 69T that I picked up to build into a GT racecar to resemble a 73 RSR. Ok here is the dilemma. Dilemma #1: These cars cost too much to try and have two. Dilemma #2: We really enjoy driving on the street but our car has become a pain because of the way it is setup. Dilemma #3: We both enjoy boating and will never be able to afford a boat and a racecar and a nice streetcar. Dilemma #4: I am very competitive with the whole car thing and really enjoy having a well setup fast car. I run with the Black group here and really enjoy playing with all of the really fast guys in our club. (I love learning from all of them) So what do I do? Here are some thoughts, PLEASE tell me your opinions…. 1) I thought about selling the project car and then selling our rebuilt 3.0 and putting a 3.6 in our SC and then tone down the level of how the SC is set up for the track. The 3.6 should make up for a little with the increased HP and yet toning it down should make it more enjoyable on the street. 2) Take a million years to finish the other car (money is the biggest object) and take all of the go-fast parts out of our SC and put it back to original. SLOW… he he he Here is how our SC is setup and why it is kind of not so much a streetcar but it is very fast on the track… 79 SC Rebuilt 3.0 with 964 cams, SSI’s and a really loud performance muffler. Did I say it was REALLY LOUD!!!!! 22/29 sanders T-bars 22mm Racers group bars (Heim joints) Heim joint drop links w/930 tie rods 993 calipers with 3.2 rotors Short-geared trans w/quaife (very short geared…5th is .96 to 1) Lowered and balanced 930s spoiler w/oil cooler Bilstien sports 8/9.5 x 16 wheels with 245/265 kuhmo’s Very aggressive alignment DAS roll bar So what do I do? I don’t think that I can really ever afford both. PLEASE tell me your opinions…

I have often thought that if I got in a financial situation where I couldn't keep racing Porsches (which is always possible), I would still want to keep racing something. What would it be? Maybe a Formula Vee or a spec Miata or something else that is durable and inexpensive.
I'm pretty confident that I could always afford a street SC and an inexpensive alternative to keep me on the track. Hard to say what you should do, but thats what I'd do.

IMHO,
Sell the '69 and the SC. Use the money for twds a 964 or 993. Then keep the new 911 basically as stock except for a set of track tires and brake ducts. You could also have a set of street coil overs and a set of track coil overs. This should make a fast DE car. Now if you were to race, then things are different. With regards to Dilemma #3, find a friend who has a boat. Maybe a partnership.

Dilema #5: Buy a boat and now you need a truck to get the boat from your home to the water. From what I hear, boats are the bigest money pits. Best way to get a boat is have a friend that owns a boat.
Seriously, putting a 3.6 in you SC will not be inexpensive. How about a new muffler and tone down the suspension/alignment on the SC? Sounds like you have a good set up. For comfort I would sell both the SC and the project and get a nice 964 or 993.

A friend of mine signed up for a "membership" to use boats. He pays a yearly fee and can use the boats (Ski and Pontoon boats) free for 5 hrs at a time. He just has to call a couple days ahead of time to reserve the boat. He does have to pay for gas and can only use the boat at that lake, but he doesn't have to haul, maintain, or store the boat and gets the use of tubes, skis, and life jackets. I'm pretty sure he said it was a reasonable price. I can let you how much if you would like.

Thanks for all of the opinions, it really does help to have someone else look at the ideas and give me your points of view. I never even thought about the 993 route. 993...hmmm....Yummy…..
We have owned boats for 8 years up until last year. We have deen sharing with in-laws and that is taking its toll quickly on both me and the wife. But I could put up with it for a while longer I'm sure. Oh, we have a nice truck in preperation for buying a trailer or boat but maybe I should sell that to help pay for a 993. Thanks everyone, keep em coming if you want to. Gotta go take the wife to diner for our 10 year anniversary.
