Can Cis Be Fooled?
My 3.0 doen not want to start in the cold weather here. Asside from the fact that there might be numerous problems, i am assuming my cold start valve is not working properly. I have not yet tested it but plan on buying a new one regardless. In the mean time, does anyone know if there is a way to "trick" this motor to get it started? any way to get here running with a bad cold start valve and possibly a faulty wur? just need it running to check timing.

Does it begin to start and then die (aux Air valve problem) or just take a lot of cranking to start?

it take a lot of cranking and doesnt start...i think i have a timing issue going on too. fresh rebiuld to. I had it runing yesterday but had backfiring...so i though i was off 180 with the dist but i had #5 and 6 wires backwards. I fixed that now i cant get her to fire.

I'd think if you spray engine starting fluid into the intake and the car fires right up, then your ignition is not the problem. If it doesn't, then you most likely have a ignition problem.

Have not been following your threads, but CIS can be fooled.
If you suspect the cold start is not working, lift up on the air plate. DOuble check the ignition first...more often than not, folks think it's fuel...but turns out to be ignition. If you can get it running, get a strobe on it and go fromt here. I've noticed that on the SC motors, the static timing can sometimes be a gear tooth off (advance) (i.e. I'll set it for #1, but when runs, I'm too far advance...lift dist up slightly and rotate cw one tooth. just a thought.) What exactly is happening? |
